Redmi Watch 5 Active review: a functional smartwatch at a low price

Redmi Watch 5 Active review:  a functional smartwatch  at a low  price

The Redmi Watch 5 Active is Xiaomi's latest budget smartwatch in Poland, aimed at users looking for a simple yet functional device for tracking activity and health. Is it worth considering? Let's find out.

Design and build quality

The watch has a modern look, yet doesn't hide its budget-friendly nature. The plastic bezel and silicone strap are lightweight and comfortable, and the device weighs only about 35 grams. The Redmi Watch 5 Active is available in several colors, so you can choose one to suit your style.

The display is a 1.83-inch LCD with a resolution of 240x280 pixels. It's not AMOLED, so the contrast isn't on par with more expensive models, but the brightness and viewing angles are sufficient for everyday use, even in sunlight.

Features and software

The Redmi Watch 5 Active runs on Xiaomi's simple, proprietary HyperOS system, powered by the Mi Fitness app . The interface is fast and intuitive. Users have access to:

  • 24/7 heart rate measurement,

  • SpO₂ (blood oxygen saturation) monitoring,

  • measurement of stress, sleep and menstrual cycle,

  • over 100 sports modes , including running, cycling, swimming and fitness,

The watch also supports phone notifications , music control, weather forecasts, and reminders to move. However, it lacks the ability to install external apps or NFC contactless payments – this isn't a top-of-the-line device.

Battery

One of the Redmi Watch 5 Active's biggest advantages is its battery life. The manufacturer claims up to 20 days of typical use, which translates to 10-15 days of intensive use with occasional health monitoring. Magnetic charging takes about 1.5 hours. The battery is relieved by the absence of a GPS module, which is only available on the Redmi Watch 5 and Watch 5 Lite.

Measurement accuracy

The sensors perform surprisingly well for the price. Heart rate and SpO₂ measurements are accurate enough for amateurs, though don't expect the precision of medical equipment. The GPS acquires a signal quickly and doesn't disconnect during training – a significant improvement over older Redmi models.

Price and profitability

Currently, in 2025, the Redmi Watch 5 Active costs around 140 PLN , making it one of the most cost-effective smartwatches in its class. It offers more than most fitness trackers, yet still costs very little.

Advantages

  • Long battery life

  • Large, easy-to-read screen

  • Lightweight design and comfortable to wear

  • Low price

Defects

  • No built-in GPS

  • No NFC and no ability to install applications

  • LCD screen (no deep black)

  • Limited interaction with notifications

Final score: 10/10

The Redmi Watch 5 Active is a great choice for those looking for an affordable, durable smartwatch for everyday use and sports . It won't replace the Apple Watch or Amazfit GTR, but it's one of the best choices in its price range.
